Belinda Griffiths

Every moment is gone within a blink, most of our thinking resides in our memories. Belinda's current practice is exploring light, reflection and how that links into our memory.

About Me

My photo
B
Wellington, New Zealand
Every moment is gone within a blink, most of our thinking presides in our memories of the past. Belindas current practice is exploring painting as a rendered record of memory, rather than a representation of our direct visual experience. Memories are always changing, coalescing like clouds, playing into the idea that our reality is a fabrication of memories. Her current style explores the sensual materiality of paint, with speedy execution leaving no room for correction or contemplation during the process. This latest series turns the eye inwards to our own internal landscape, deriving inspiration from the changing states of nature by the wind. Water, light, clouds, our own bodies, affected by the atmosphere. Energy and memories move as if in flow with a musical score. Drawing upon her background as a digital artist in the film industry for eight years, three with Peter Jackson's Weta Digital, she uses it's technologies to drive her practice, a hybrid of both digital and oil mediums. A full time practicing artist, her studio can be found at Shelly Bays, Bayview Studios. Her works are held in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, France and the USA.
